Change of Plans

From BlogFavorites

Our first official day of summer, after school got out, I made plans for a fun outing. A few weeks earlier I was telling one of my young women buds about Duyck's Peachy Pig Farm in Cornelius. She thought it sounded so fun, so we planned on the first day of the first official week of summer to go on a field trip there with my girls. We put it on the calendar weeks before. On the day of I kept getting hilarious texts from Katie about how excited she was and how she was wearing overalls and needed to braid her hair for the farm trip. She definitely looked like she was ready for a farm field trip when I picked her and Eliza (her little sis - Sarah's friend) up. I LOVE how Kaitlyn is so enthusiastic about everything! She is so fun. We had our picnic lunches packed and were off.

When we pulled up to the farm we were very sad to see a CLOSED sign. )o: What??? It hadn't even occurred to me to check to see if they would be open.

My heart went out to my enthusiastic farm fan friend sitting next to me. Luckily, all the girls were flexible and were ready for a different adventure. Katie led us to a new park called 53rd Avenue park. Boring name, very cool park! We had our picnic there and enjoyed a lovely afternoon together!

Everything at this park seemed to be "thinking outside the box". It wasn't your typical playground equipment. Even the 'slide' was wonky! It made me nervouse and Angela freaked out a bit at the top. Once she got the hang of it, though, she loved it. You ride down it stradling the slide. Crazy!

That afternoon, I had to make a stop at Winco to buy some BBQ supplies for a dinner with our good friends, the Binghams, who just moved to our ward. (Yay!) Katie and Eliza came along for a shopping adventure.

Eliza and Sarah were having some silly Kodak moments at the store. The cashier was getting a kick out of our entertaining group 'o girls.

On our drive, I noticed a field full of blooming flowers/weeds. It looked so fun to get pictures in. I was in luck because my car full of girls was feeling spontaneous too! We parked across the street and ran into this field 'o flowers. (Am I feeling a little Irish today?) I wish I had my nicer camera, but we still got some cute pictures. So even though our day went completely different than planned, we ended up making some great memories! And Katie looked adorable in her overalls and braids wherever she went!
