One More Time . . .

From Blog Favorites August/September
We have been driving down to Salem to the State Fair on Labor Day weekend for years. We've probably been at least 6 or 7 of the ten years that we've lived out here. So many interesting things to see. We love people watching, looking at the animals, eating the crappy food, and going on the goofy rides. This was some kind of running over logs in the water contest. Apparently, it was the finals leading up to the world competition. We were surprised there was even such a thing!

On BIG disappointment this year was that the booth where the kids used to get to hold baby chicks does not allow kids to hold them anymore. The girls were very disappointed about this. We just had to look through the glass.

The cakes reminded me of my sister-in-law Kimmie. You would have loved these Kimmie!

We went on one ride together as a family and let the girls pick one other ride to go on. The prices were ridiculous. We couldn't believe all the people who looked like they couldn't afford clothes or dental work, going on tons and tons of rides. We really felt like we splurged doing our two rides.

From Blog Favorites August/September
While daddy was getting tickets I noticed Natalie crouched on the ground. The ride right by us was coming downward quickly and looked to her like it was coming down right on her.

From Blog Favorites August/September
We thought it would be fun to all ride the Ferris Wheel together. Natalie was so incredibly nervous! Can you tell by her face? She did not like the gentle rocking at all!

Sarah chose a little fun house for her ride. Natalie chose another fun house.

We will miss the Oregon State Fair and will definitely be checking out the Utah State Fair next year!

Killing Time and Making Memories

From Blog Favorites August/September
Friday we were ready for the house to be photographed. We scrambled right up until the last minute, but we did it! By the time we had breakfast it was 11:30! The girls had a granola bar and a little bit of food, but we were all starving. IHOP was the perfect place to go after picking up a crate for Miss Twilight at PetSmart. She is not liking this moving thing either because she has to come in the car every time we leave the house now.

On Saturday, when the other photographer came for the still shots, we thought it might be a good time for a little school shopping. I love Kohl's. They have the best deals - especially Labor Day weekend!

After taking Twilight back home Friday (after IHOP), we headed for a family outing to the zoo. Although Zeek* and I were completely exhausted from the entire week of non-stop work, we wanted to do something fun for the girls. And, of course, our new goal is to keep the house clean. We decided to do something we haven't done for years on our zoo trips- ride the train! It was quite a lovely ride and it involved sitting which Zeek* and I appreciated!

Then we went in to feed the Lorikeets, another thing we don't do often. The girls are old enough now that they love it. (It used to freak them out.)

I bet I have a picture somewhere of Sarah sitting on this when she was 2 or maybe even younger! The girls love playing on these little statues and always have.

One ticked off and tired girl. I think she's mad we won't carry her. We get this look a lot lately. We call her the queen of hearts. "Off with their heads!", "I need a pig here!", well you get the idea.

Trying to Have Some Joys in the Journey

From Blog Favorites August/September
I took these pictures and I am posting them to help me feel better about myself and in hopes that the girls would remember Carl's* and my efforts to do some fun things amidst all the stress of moving. Carl's last day of working was August 27th. Well, working at Intel. Now he is working his tail off at home. We really hit the ground running that very next day and for the next week. Unfortunately, all the hard work meant grumpy parents when kids whined or fought. It also meant lots and lots of T.V. and movies. Lots and lots of eating out and not much attention for our girls. So Monday night we had a family home evening away from home at the park with Subways.

It was a much needed break for all of us! We were smiling and laughing again!

A Sweet Surprise

From Blog Favorites August/September

Monica, me, Arianne, Shalyce and Heather

Whose dumb idea was it to take the shot from this angle? Uh, that would be me. And you guys think I'm a good photographer? It looked so much better in my mind. But despite the glare, I think it's a cute picture and want to post it anyway. (O:

When Arianne heard I was moving she wanted to do a little get together at a park before school started. I assumed it would be just us an maybe a couple other preschool group moms, but then a couple other good friends showed up! When Angie, Heather and Shalyce came, at first I thought it was just a coincidence! Arianne had sent a message out to several friends inviting them to come for an impromptu farewell for me. She is such a sweetheart and made yummy cookies to share and brought an autograph notebook for friends to sign. She even got mini autograph books for the girls! She is so thoughtful! I was so touched that she did that for me. What a kind friend. I really appreciated the break from our busy day interviewing real estate agents and the kids needed something fun to do. What a nice treat!

Although it looks like a hot summer day looking at the way my girls are playing in the water - it wasn't!

From Blog Favorites August/September
Look how empty the fountains were! This place is usually packed on warm or hot days. Guess whose kids didn't care that it was probably only 70 degrees?

End of Summer Party!

From Blog Favorites August/September

Thursday, August 24th was a party all day long! In the morning Chuck* and I finally got to talk with our relocation specialist to get the ball rolling with our move, then the girls and I headed out to Mrs. B.'s house for a couple hours, then we drove straight to Lauren's house for an end of summer party. That night Natalie and I went on a special friend date with her best buddy Emma. More on that later . . . Needless to say, we were feeling very loved and happy that day!

My good friend Elizabeth hosted an end of summer party at her new beautiful home. She always has the best parties and makes it so fun for the kids. I just love her so much and think she is so amazing. She makes the girls feel so special. We had a wonderful time - as usual!!

I always bring my nicer camera to Elizabeth's parties because she goes all out and makes everything look so cute. (o:

This picture captures what I LOVE about Lauren. She has such enthusiasm and zest for life. Ever since she was a baby she has done everything with so much gusto! Even the scrapes on her face show you what kind of girl she is. She was running around and looking at something else and crashed right into one of her friends! She probably saw something that was really cool, but didn't want to stop running while she admired it! (o: She always says the sweetest exclamations. Elizabeth was telling me that earlier in the week they had a clogged toilet. She told Lauren not to use that bathroom until she got it fixed. The next morning Elizabeth told Lauren that mommy fixed the potty so she could use it again. Lauren told her "Good job mommy! That's so great!" Like she had just won a trip to Disneyland. (O: What a sweetheart.

I just love and adore these two ladies. How did I get so lucky to have such amazing and talented and fun and loving friends? I am so grateful for them and I am always happy when we are together. Good friends bring out the best in you and that exactly the kind of friends Elizabeth and Angie are to me. Love you gals!
