Here's how it worked . . . The girls started out in the gym with a certain number of starburst to bid on different boxes that had a warm dinner for two packed inside. They had to "pay" the boy who made the boxed dinner with the starburst she bid and got to keep the remaining starburst to herself. Some girls really wanted a certain box and would bid all her starbursts for it.
Then the boys were invited in and had to find which girl had their box. There were so many creative boxes. Some put their food in tool boxes, baskets, big Costco boxes, etc. Some got fancy and put a flower or something else nice on top. The girls loved the ones that looked extra special.
I was so impressed with some of the meals these teenage boys made! The boys were supposed to make the meals themselves with minimal help from mom. Look at T.J.'s meal. Yum! I told him his mom has trained him well! There were quite a few boys that really did an awesome job. A couple bought Subways or pizza, but almost everyone really put effort into their meals. What awesome kids!
The nice big tables with plenty of friends around made the night comfortable and if anyone felt awkward with their "date" you wouldn't know it by all the talking and laughing going on.
