Angela's Owie

This is Angela. Isn't she cute?

She is also very brave.

This is a stepping stone in our backyard.

Looks innocent enough.

But Angela + stepping stone = bad owies.

On Saturday afternoon, around 3:30, I was setting up for our big Young Women Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser when I got a call no mom wants to get. "I have to take Angela to the E.R."
Sarah and Natalie joined me at the church and were such good sports during the 5 hours of setting up and the actual event. I am grateful for good girls. Especially when emergencies come up. They're not perfect, but I think they're pretty great.
I texted Grant* the whole afternoon/evening to keep posted on how my little sweetie was doing. I was so worried about her and wanted to hug her.
We got home about the same time and I got to see the damage and hear how brave Angela was. She didn't cry and just watched when they stitched her up. (She was numb, of course, but she didn't get freaked out about the needle going in her.) Mostly, she just remembers getting to be daddy's buddy and getting to watch the Disney channel.

For 10 days after the owie, we had to change her bandages twice a day and keep it moist with Neosporin. Baths were a little trick, but Angela learned to keep her knee up.

There's her two stitches several days later. The wound healed quickly and we were very grateful it didn't get infected. The doctor warned Grant* that because it was a very jagged cut, there was a good chance of infection. That was also the reason why he only did two stitches. I am so grateful that I insisted Angela put on her stretchy pants under her dress that day. It would have been so much worse and even higher chance of infection. They didn't survive the accident, but they protected her little knee.

This is our routine every night and morning.

We wrapped up the gauze in this stretchy bandage every day to protect and cushion it.

And tights over the top to hold it in place (or pants on the rare day she doesn't wear a dress).
Angela never really complained at all, but when she got her stitches out today she commented on the way out of the doctor's office. "Hey, my leg feels regular!" I think it felt good to have all the layers of "stuff" off her leg. What a brave girl. She is a trooper.

I'm glad you're back to regular! I've had stitches in my leg twice...not fun at all!

Angela is soooo brave. I cut my finger this mornign on some glass and I ran around the house screaming for someone to patch me up. Sarah was the doctor and she made me take my hands off of the cut to see how deep it was. I wouldnt move though. THEN mom said "Lizzy, if we dont see how deep it is than we might have to take you to the ER for stiches." Without anymore delay I gave my hand to Dr.Sarah. It was deep, but not deep enough to convince me to go to the ER. I'm a chicken when it comes to hospitals. "Angela you are my hero!"
