A sad photo essay of Angela putting forth a good effort, but discovering the sad truth that her tricycle is utterly useless at this time.

My good friend Elizabeth invited Angela over for a fun Christmas Cocoa Party playdate with little Lauren a week or so ago. Little did we know that school would not be in session on the day. Elizabeth was a great sport and invited sisters to come along too and we had a fabulous time. There were 9 little girls all together. Elizabeth had the house so cute and Christmas-y with lots of fun foods set out. Sarah brought a pop up book to read to the littler girls, we sang carols and just had a fun time being together. That's what the holidays are all about! Thanks Elizabeth for a wonderful break from our cabin fever!
The northwest is having a VERY white Christmas this year. Actually, it remains to be seen if this actually sticks around for Christmas day, but in our 8 1/2 years here, we have never had anywhere near this much snow during the holidays.
The girls are getting lots of use out of their winter coats - our other winter clothing supplies are pretty meager, however. The girls' golashes (sp?) aren't great for snow and we use gloves so seldom that Natalie and Angela don't even have any that fit them well. I think Angela's are actually baby gloves, but they stretch over her hands enough. (o: Luckily we found some new gloves at Fred Meyer on sale for $4 yesterday.
Though we have had to miss out on many Christmas parties, programs and other outings, we have had our own holiday fun. The girls had a 'sleepover' by the Christmas tree in the living room. They only got out of their sleeping bags about 42 times before finally falling asleep. Okay that is a little bit of an exaduration. (o:
Fun with dew...
So cute.
Natalie and Sarah have really enjoyed participating in Chess Club at school. Unlike the days I remember (when being on the chess club was kind of nerdy) it is quite a popular club at Patterson - around 100 kids. I think it's a great way for the kids to learn sportsmanship and strategy. I played with a little 1st grader next to Natalie and Lydia and got "schooled" by the adorable boy in glasses who luckily didn't have time to finish a game and kick my behind.
Piano recital. (Heidi I have video of my song that I've thought about posting mostly for your entertainment, but don't have time at the moment to figure it out.)
Thanksgiving - we enjoyed a wonderful meal with Shannan and her family and another great family in our ward that I just love. We had a great time together and I learned to like brussel sprouts. Actually it was my first time trying them! Yum!
Natalie's teacher held a cute little feast between the pilgrims and Indians with her class. Angela and I joined and helped with the festivities.
What is this you ask? Well I wish I had my video camera this night so you could appreciate how hilarious this was. These guys are young men in our ward (16-18 year olds) who put on some very entertaining entertainment for our Senior Dinner. They did a synchronized swimming number that had us all in tears. The Andrea Boceli song they danced to (one of my favorites) made it even funnier - must be the stark contrast of the beauty of the music compared to the silliness of this group of teenage boys attempting to be graceful.
Angela and mommy playing at "Out of This World" for a preschool field trip. This was a fun outing for both of us! These bikes were a hoot! Some of us moms rode around for a while on them even without the kids. We had fun visiting, the kids had fun running around on the inflatables and we enjoyed good food too.
Oh boy. This kitty is a handful! This was right after she fell in the tub with the girls! She loves to walk around the edge when someone is taking a bath. She didn't learn from her mistake and fell again the next week. What a stinker. Trouble with a capital "T".
Even though this is kind of sad, I thought it was a very good way for Natalie to express herself. I don't remember what the sadness was about (it's always something). I think this work of art really exhibits so much emotion, it is stirring, don't you think? Too bad it's on a magna doodle, it reminds me a lot of Van Gogh's "The Scream"
The girls love this cute little wooden nativity set I got when Sarah was a baby at Deseret Book on clearance for $7. It has everything - wise men, an angel, a shepherd, Mary, Joseph and of course baby Jesus. The weird thing is that it has quite an assortment of animals, but no sheep for the shepherd. Perhaps the reason it was on clearance. No matter, the girls don't notice and love to play with these. It's the first thing Sarah asks for when the Christmas boxes come out of the attic.
Bobolito Bear on the preschool field trip to the airport. More on Bobolito below...
I have done this field trip to the Hillsboro airport with all three of my girls. It is a favorite, for sure. We love the guy who takes us on the tour - he always makes it so fun.
Kayelynn and I did preschool the first week of December. The lesson was on transportation. This pretend airplane was a HUGE hit. The kids played along and had a great time putting on their seatbelts, getting pretend snacks, looking out the windows at the clouds and reading books during the flight! They even had tickets and had to find their seat numbers. Very cute. Julie and Kim have the cutest preschool lessons.
One night we had Mark and Michelle over for dinner. We enjoyed chili, Christmas singing and dancing - provided by the kids with some lovely piano accompaniment and while the dads were up playing Barbies with the little girls, they made the discovery that Prince Phillip looks just like one of their co-workers. If anyone is interested, apparently this is an exact replica of Kevin and he is single, ladies. (o: Although, I'm not sure if the real life version wears a red cape.
The first part of December, Angela was honored with a visit from Bobolito, the preschool "pet". All the kids adore this little friend and can't wait for their turn. Angela took good care of Bobolito and loved feeding him, sleeping with him and bringing him on our field trip to the airport (as seen above).
